What can you do for your union?

A good portion of our paychecks go to pay union dues. And some union members believe that takes care of their obligation to the union.

It doesn’t!

Our union dues not only buy us job security and protection, it buys us membership in a union that gives us power and influence when we work together.

And the only thing this union asks of us in return is that we take pride in being a union member.

But, what does it mean to be a union member?

For starters, it means that:

  • we respect one another.
  • we understand that all of us and the jobs we do are important to the union.
  • we leave the evaluation of our colleagues’ work to managers who get paid to do that job.
  • we settle our differences with one another through the avenues the union provides and not in front of management.
  • we do our business in union-friendly shops.
  • we work together to solve internal problems instead of airing them out in public.
  • we know that if we can’t say something good about our colleagues, we say nothing at all.
  • we understand that what hurts one of us, hurts all of us.

When you think about it—it’s quite a deal. We pay union dues. Our union fights for us and our rights and all we have to do is respect one another. You can’t beat that for the money!
